I studied music at the Conservatory of Rotterdam, a dynamic harbour city. Ships came in, sailed out, bearing intruiging exotic flags, and spectacular rusty patches. Some of their names sounded like dances, painted proudly on bow and stern.
Those images have always stayed with me, as a an inspiration to what I want my music to sound like. Like the hazy, distant light of ship, coming from a mast above a cargohold full of cool stuff, transported from a mysterious zone beyond the horizon.
